English purists refuted all the lovers….

Posted by Atul Bhatia on October 4, 2008

Well foxed from the title ???

What does an expert of English language has to do with commitment of XYZ lover ??

It has……

(Well whatever is going to follow is not my own explorations but has been amongst the worthy teachings of my teacher – Kumar Abhishek, an excellent personality. So all credit to him for pointing out such a wonderful mistake, made extensively.)

What if your lover say you — “I LOVE U”

What would be your reply???

Obviously, “ME TOO”…..(and smtime me 3, me 4, me 5 and you go on..)

But next time it happens, think again since you are making fool out of your lover….

The question now is why??

And the answer to this question is that the sentence is gramatically incorrect.

Reason :- There are 3 parts of speech – Subject, Verb and Object.

We can have an English sentence with all three there or with Subject and verb only or with verb and object only(Although there is one exception to this rule as a sentence “Taller the boy, greater his reach” does not contain any verb). And since we all know that doer of the action is subject, So when I am doing the job of loving some XYZ person I am a subject and in subject form “I” is used where as in object form “me” is used. Since in above case I am doing the action it has to be subject , i.e. , “I” and not “ME”

So it’s “I too”

and not “Me too”

By the way, if you don’t really love the person, it’s better to use “Me too”. Since the sentence is wrong, so are your intentions……..lolzzzzzz
